Based in Portland, Oregon, Columbia Sportswear is a global leader in the outdoor apparel and footwear industries. In 2007, the company reported record net sales of $1.36 billion. Columbia’s extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia is renowned for developing innovative products that are comfortable, protective, functional, stylish and offer great value.
In December 2008, Tanner Creek Energy completed the design and installation of a 100.1 kW grid-tie photovoltaic system mounted on the roof of two buildings at Columbia’s headquarters in Portland. We call this system an “All Oregon Solar Array” as all subcontractors, equipment and materials used on this project were supplied by Oregon-based companies or companies with a large Oregon presence. This system will produce approximately 107,100 kWh of electricity per year and will reduce Columbia’s carbon impact by an average of 90 tons each year and by 2,002 tons over the 25 year life of the system.
“Columbia is actively seeking to implement best practices that will reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources at our headquarters in Washington County. We chose to partner with Tanner Creek Energy for this project because of our shared commitment to the local economy and to supporting the adoption of more renewable energy sources.”
